Original show dir by Emma Rice, music by Stu Barker, cast Edith Tankus, Pieter Lawman, Kirsty Woodward, Alex Vann, Paul Hunter, Mike Shepherd, James Traherne.

Rapunzel was my first full length play, written in 2005 for my then very young daughters. It was peak “Daddy’s Little Princess” times and I wanted to create a swarthy, salty, opinionated and funny heroine my fierce small daughters could relate to.

The show was taken up by Cornish theatre legends Kneehigh Theatre, directed by Emma Rice, music by Stu Barker, premiering at Battersea Arts Centre in 2006, returning to London in 2007 at the South Bank (Queen Elizabeth Hall), then touring 2007-8, culminating in New York at the New Victory Theater in 2008.

Rapunzel has since been remounted several times, most notably at the Citz’ 2015, directed by Lu Kemp, the Egg 2019 directed by Nik Partridge, and now, The Watermill 2022 directed by Lucy Betts.
